After seeing our last couple of updates, James Yurichuk; linebacker for the Toronto Argonauts and the 2014 winner of the coveted Jake Gaudaur Award, wanted you fans to know what he was up to as well! Here’s the conversation we had with him:
CFLPA: Hi James, thanks for taking some time to answer a few of our questions. What have you been up to since the end of the 2014 season?
James Yurichuk: “We didn’t make the playoffs so it’s been a long one [off-season]. Coaching, training and family have kept me busy.”
PA: What goals have you set for the 2015 off-season?
JY: “The goal like every off-season is to come back next year in the best shape as possible to help the team win.”
PA: What kinds of things does a professional football player need to think about when preparing an off-season plan?
JY: “There can be a sudden influx of time once the season ends. December is dedicated to family and Christmas activities. It is also a good time to set goals for off-season so when the New Year hits, you hit the ground running.”
PA: Are there any unconventional aspects of your off-season training regimen? What would fans be surprised to know you include in your program?
JY: “I like to keep my training old school. Weight room and field work. I’ll intermix some yoga in there to balance everything out.”
PA: Did you set aside any time for vacation this off-season? If not, what will you do to relax before the start of the season?
JY: “I like to get to Wasaga Beach for May long weekend every year.”
PA: Outside of football, what does 2015 hold for you?
JY: “Many good things I hope!”
We want to thank James for taking a moment to sit down with us and give a little insight into what his life is like when he’s not playing every day. The answer? More football!
