In his second season with the Lions, Ernest was primarily a reserve receiver seeing action in two regular season games, both starts however. He started on July 30 vs Toronto and again on Sep. 22 vs Saskatchewan where he had his best game of the year hauling in four passes for 32 yards against the Riders. Ernest spent the remainder of the season on the 46-man game roster and injured list.
Ernest spent the first five weeks on the practice roster before being activated for his CFL debut on Aug 6/12 at Toronto. He had an immediate impact, leading the team with a season-best 87 receiving yards on four catches in his very first game. The rest of the way, Ernest saw action in nine more games and ended up with 347 yards on 27 receptions including four games with four or more catches. He also picked up valuable rushing yards as well averaging 10.8 yards on eight carries including a 15-yard TD run on Aug 19/12 vs. Saskatchewan and added a career-best 29-yard run vs. Montreal on Sep 8/12.
