Fernand played in four games for the Blue Bombers and registered one tackle.
Kashama played 17 games in his first season and starting 10 games at defensive end. He also started for both the West semifinal and the West final. For the season, he recorded nine tackles, including one tackle for loss, nine special-teams tackles and one sack. He made three more special-teams tackles in the post-season.
Kashama was born in the Congo and raised in Canada. He is a graduate of Notre Dame Secondary School in Brampton, Ont. He comes from a football family — his brother Alain signed with the Stampeders on February 23, 2009. Another brother, Hakeem, played for Connecticut in college and for Hamilton in the CFL. Youngest brother Bronley is attending Eastern Michigan in the fall. In addition, he is the cousin of former University of Michigan and Carolina Panthers running back Tim Biakabutuka.
Kashama started his career at Western Michigan as a tight end before being moved to the defensive line as a junior. He recorded 14 tackles and one sack in two seasons at defensive end for the Broncos. He had a career-high three tackles against Central Conneticut State on Sept. 22, 2007 and against Temple on Nov. 24, 2007, he recorded his first sack.
Calgary selected Kashama in the second round (16th overall) in the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft. He signed with the club on May 8, 2009.
