Elliott signed with the Lions as a free agent on May 23, 2013.
The most productive of his three seasons with the Bombers, Joey missed just one game in 2012 and set career-best marks of 2,101 passing yards, a 60.7% completion rate, five touchdown passes, and 134 rushing yards. In seven starts last season including five consecutive games from Aug. 16/12 to Sept. 14/12 Joey had a 2-5 record. He enjoyed a career outing on Aug. 16/12 start vs Hamilton leading his club to a win going 33-of-43 for 406 yards and one TD. He also recorded a pair of 300-yard passing days including 335 yards in a win over Montreal on Oct 8/12.
Joey’s second CFL campaign was limited to only three games in 2011 after going down with a knee injury on Jul 14/11 vs Calgary, a game in which he saw his first and only action of the season. He finished 10-of-18 for 87 yards vs the Stamps before being sidelined for the rest of the year.
Joey was on third string quarterback, only after injuries occurred did Joey play in his first game. During the game he completed 8 of 16 passes for 75 yards and one interception. He was named the starting quarterback for the final two games, he recorded completing 13 of 29 passes for 241 yards.
Played four years with the Purdue Boilermakers primarily as a backup to Curtis Painter before taking over the starting job in his senior season. That year, Elliott completed 267 of 433 passes for 3,026 yards and 22 touchdowns against only 13 interceptions and had only one game where his quarterback rating was below 111.33. Elliott was named co-captain as a senior.
