He attended training camp with the Alouettes last summer, learning the ropes from veteran pivot Anthony Calvillo before returning to school in the fall for his final year of CIS eligibility.


In his final season with the Acadia University Axemen, the Barrie, ON native led his team to a 7-1 record, losing only to the eventual Vanier Cup champion Laval Rouge et Or. In 2012, Graves led all Atlantic Conference quarterbacks in passing yards (2,012), touchdown passes (14) and completion percentage (57.1), while throwing only four interceptions in eight games. On his feet, Graves rushed for not only 167 yards and two TDs on 28 carries, but was also the conference's best punter with an average of 40.3 yards per kick.
