On June 4th he signed with the Florida Tuskers (UFL) and attended training camp.  Was released on September 6 as a final cut.  On October 6th he signed to the Toronto Argonauts practice roster.  Remained on the practice roster for four weeks before being released

College

Played five seasons (2005-09) at South Florida University. 2009 Started first three games of season.  Sustained a season-ending knee injury on September 19 during third start. 2008 Finished with career highs in touchdown passes (18), passing yards (2,911), completions (240), and passing yards per game (223.9).  Led team with 591 yards rushing and four rushing touchdowns.  Led Big East in total offence (269.4 yards per game)…Named MVP of St. Petersburg Bowl. 2007 Started in Brut Sun Bowl…Led Bulls to 9-4 record and No. 2 BCS ranking in mid-season…Passed for school-record 382 yards in loss to Cincinnati… Finished season with 22 touchdowns and just 14 interceptions. 2006 Won starting QB spot over senior Pat Julmiste in the first game of season…Named 2006 Big East Conference Rookie of the Year…Led USF to the PapaJohns.com Bowl victory…Accumulated average of 246 offensive yards per game, second-highest in Big East. 2005 Redshirt freshman.

Matt Grothe (Pro: Grow-THEE) spends the off-season teaching math at Lake Gibson High School in Lakeland, Florida, the high school he attended. His parents are Matt and Brenda Grothe and he has two younger brothers, Chris and David. He’s an avid outdoorsman who enjoys both hunting and fishing.
