Ricky had an outstanding season being voted as the Most Outstanding Canadian at the Gibson's Finest Player awards on November 26th 2009.
Ricky established himself as a strong defender last season stepping in frequently at rush end in passing situations. A valuable special teams performer, Rick scored his first career CFL TD grabbing a Tad Crawford blocked punt on Aug 8/08 vs Edmonton and returning it 30 yards for score. He ranked 5th on the team with four sacks despite limited regular defensive time and 2nd in the CFL with four forced fumbles.
The 2007 season was a break-out year for Ricky as he was able to break into the Lions regular defensive rotation. Played all 18 games along the defensive line and on special teams where he led the Lions with 22 special teams tackles (third in the CFL). All 12 of his defensive tackles and all of his 4 sacks for the season came in the second half of the campaign. Ranked second on the club with two forced fumbles.
Joining the Lions after a free agent mini-camp stint with Baltimore of the NFL, Foley made his professional debut versus Toronto (June 30/06). Appeared in 16 regular season games as well as the West Championship and 2006 Grey Cup. A standout on special teams, Foley recorded nine STT as well as two defensive tackles and a fumble recovery during the regular season. Ricky also chipped in two STT in the 2006 Grey Cup.
Foley was a first-team OUA All-Star each of his last two seasons at York, and was a second-team CIS All-Canadian in 2004 when he led the nation with nine quarterback sacks. Foley recorded 34 tackles to rank 19th in the OUA in 2004 and also grabbed 2 interceptions. In 2005, Ricky increased his total tackles to 49 overall (13th in the country).
During the off season, Ricky spends as much time as possible on the family farm in Courtice, Ontario. He enjoys working on vintage cars during his spare time. In high school, Ricky was a decathlete. He competed in the 60m and the shotput (establishing school record) with York's track and field team in 2004, and never played an organized football game until he attended university.
