Shabazz recorded 72 tackles, two fumble recoveries and four interceptions, (two of which were returned for touchdowns). He was also named the CFL's top defensive player for the month of July.
In Shabazz’s second season with the Eskimos, he started all 18 games for the second consecutive year. He was second on the team in defensive tackles with 63, and added six special teams tackles. Shabazz recorded four tackles for loss, three quarterback sacks, and one interception.
Shabazz’s first year in the CFL was a great one. In 18 games, he led his team with 78 defensive tackles, and added 17 special teams tackles. He also notched four quarterback sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and two tackles for losses.
At New Mexico State, Shabazz had 233 tackles, four interceptions, and five forced fumbles in 46 games. He made the All-Sunbelt Conference first team twice.
