In 18 regular season games and two playoff tilts, Darren made 52 tackles which ranked him seventh in the club. He added three more on special teams and led the Lions with seven pass knockdowns in 2009. Darren stepped in as an emergency kick returner and made four punt returns for 17 yards and four kickoff returns for another 54 yards.
Toney spent four seasons at Arkansas State (2004-07) where he appeared in 43 career games and returned six interceptions for 111 yards and one TD as well as 72 kickoffs for 1,513 yards and two TD’s. He appeared in eight games for the Red Wolves as a senior, recording 27 total tackles, 2.5 TFL, four pass knockdowns and one sack. He also returned nine kickoffs for 253 yards and two interceptions for 32 yards and one TD.
Darren majored in Interdisciplinary Studies at Arkansas State where he also competed in track & field. He attended Lake Village High School and played three seasons as a running back, and was named all-conference twice and all-state as a senior. He also participated in track and played basketball in high school. Darren spends the off-season as a substitute teacher and coach at Lake Village High School and enjoys fishing in his spare time. His former Arkansas State teammate, James Johnson, currently plays for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
