Calgary signed Blackmon as a free agent on May 5, 2009.
Blackmon played three seasons at Auburn. He recorded 21 tackles in a 2008 season curtailed by a wrist injury, bringing his career total with the Tigers to 84. In 2007, his sophomore campaign, he started the season’s final seven contests and made 41 tackles including 25 of the solo variety. His 2007 performance included a nine-tackle game against Arkansas which resulted in Blackmon being named the Southeastern Conference defensive player of the week. He also recorded his first career interception in a game against Kansas Sate. In 2006, Blackmon was named to The Sporting News SEC All-Freshman Team as well as the publication’s Freshman All-American Second Team. He finished his freshman season with 18 tackles in six games and tied for the team lead with three fumble recoveries
After an outstanding career at LaGrange High School, Blackmon was rated by Scout.com as the top linebacker in the 2005 college recruiting class. He amassed 115 tackles, eight sacks and seven forced fumbles in leading LaGrange to the Georgia Class AAA state championship as a senior. He was named the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s 2004 Player of the Year and was a three-time all-state selection. Blackmon was also part of a state championship squad in his junior year.
