Powell signed with the Ottawa Redblacks in September 2015. He previously signed with the Detroit Lions in September 2014, the Houston Texans in August 2014 and with the Philadelphia Eagles in July 2013. He entered the NFL after signing with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in May, 2011. In 2018, Powell started in 16 regular-season games for the Redblacks. He had 251 carries for 1,362 yards and six touchdowns, added 39 catches for 319 yards and two touchdowns and recorded six 100-yard rushing games. Powell started in the Eastern Final and had 21 carries for 86 yards and one reception for five yards. As a starter in the Grey Cup he had 16 carries for 94 yards and two receptions for eight yards. With all his success, he was named a 2018 East Division All-Star.
