For Ottawa RedBlacks linebacker and former Edmonton Elk Nyles Morgan, leadership doesn’t stop when the final whistle blows. While his on-field production has consistently placed him among the CFL’s top defenders, Morgan has built an equally meaningful legacy off the field. One that is rooted in service, mentorship, and creating opportunity for the next generation.
Morgan’s commitment to community is most visible through Destined Athletics, an athletic training program he co-founded to support young athletes striving to compete at the highest levels in football and other sports. Launched in the winter of 2022, Destined Athletics now serves more than 60 youth athletes in Edmonton, spanning multiple age groups, each with tailored training programs focused on skill development, discipline, and long-term growth. The program has established partnerships with local minor football organizations and CJFL teams, creating clear pathways for young athletes to pursue their goals.

Building on that foundation, Morgan also helped develop Future Brights, a non-profit organization under Destined Athletics designed specifically for children aged 7–12. As a board member, Morgan plays a hands-on role in shaping a program centered on leadership development, teamwork, and athletic fundamentals, ensuring that young participants gain confidence and life skills alongside their athletic training.

In 2024, Morgan’s passion for service extended further through the launch of Tackling Homelessness with Destined Athletics, a community initiative aimed at raising awareness and support for Edmonton’s inner-city homelessness crisis. Hosted on April 6, 2024, the event brought together athletes, community members, and partners to contribute clothing and proceeds to the Mustard Seed Foundation, reinforcing Morgan’s belief that athletes have a responsibility to use their platform for positive change.
Beyond organizing events, Morgan regularly gives back through speaking engagements with local high schools, minor football programs, and CJFL teams. Sharing his personal journey and professional experiences, he encourages young athletes to stay focused on their goals regardless of their circumstances.

Morgan’s approach to community involvement mirrors the leadership he brings to the field. A team captain with the Edmonton Elks, he has been a vocal presence in the locker room and a trusted leader within the organization. He has participated in culture building initiatives, helped shape team values, and continued to lead teammates even during periods when injuries kept him sidelined. That same sense of responsibility drives his year-round commitment to Destined Athletics and its community initiatives, often requiring 20–25 hours per week during the season in addition to his professional Football responsibilities.
While Morgan’s on-field résumé includes standout performances and league recognition, he measures success by the impact he has on others. “Life is all about service,” he says. “Using my voice to affect change is a big part of why I work so hard on and off the field.”
Through mentorship, advocacy, and hands-on leadership, Nyles Morgan exemplifies what it means to be a CFLPA member committed to giving back, proving that the most meaningful wins often happen far beyond the playing field.
