CFLPA Academy members, Bailey Feltmate, Michael O’Connor, and Tyler Turner will each receive a full scholarship to complete their firefighting training through Training Division
Mississauga, ON - The Canadian Football League Players’ Association (CFLPA) and Training Division announced today, a full scholarship for three (3) CFLPA Academy members to enroll in the Training Division, firefighting course.
Through CFLPA Academy partner, Training Division, current and former members; Bailey Feltmate, Michael O’Connor and Tyler Turner will each be receiving a complete tuition scholarship to subsidize the Firefighter certification costs. Training Division is a leader in firefighting training and has graduates in hundreds of fire departments across North America. This scholarship includes tuition for both the online portion of the training and the two-week residency at Training Division’s facility in Crowley, Texas.
“Thanks to the CFLPA Academy for taking the baton even further and promoting the Training Division Fire Fighting Academy to its members, and putting it out to these candidates in Michael, Bailey, and Tyler”, said Training Division owner, Brad Loewen. “You guys will undoubtedly have a great course, but also be great ambassadors for this type of program.”
"I’m just grateful that I was able to be chosen. My Dad was a police officer, so I kind of grew up around public service, and I always just remember being so proud of him. I always wanted to be like him. So, if I can do that for my children, I think that would be really cool", said CFLPA Academy member, Michael O’Connor upon receiving his scholarship to the Training Division Firefighting program.
“After maturing and growing up, and learning from experiences, talking to new people – I knew that firefighting would probably be the best job for me”, said Bailey Feltmate. “I’d say, it’s [very] applicable for us football players being in a room of [teammates] training all the time. Teamwork, adversity. We experience that [in football].”
“I talked to Danny Vandervoort, who went through the program, and he said that this [Training Division program] is top-notch, the best thing [for CFL players]. I’m super ecstatic that I got the call, and super excited to get started", said CFLPA Academy member Tyler Turner.
These scholarships were selected based on written essays submitted by all successful applicants. About Training Division:
Training Division is an emergency services training company that was developed by firefighters for firefighters, fire recruits, and Emergency Medical Service personnel. As professional firefighters, we understand the difficulty of trying to obtain firefighter certification, EMS certification, and professional development training. A group of firefighters with many years of fire education experience has developed these programs with those problems in mind, including the NFPA 1001 certification that we offer here at Training Division. We wanted to make a fire and EMS training program that everyone could take from their own home, rather than try and sign up for a class, arrange accommodations, and schedule time off.
